Stovetop Method (Recommended)

Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs mostly clear. Soak for 2–4 hours to achieve a softer and more even texture. Drain and add 1 cup of rice to 1¼–1½ cups of water in a pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 25–30 minutes until the water is absorbed. Let it rest for 10 minutes before fluffing gently.

Rice Cooker Method

Rinse and soak the rice as recommended. Add the rice and water (1:1.25 ratio) to the rice cooker and cook using the white or mixed rice setting. Allow it to rest for a few minutes after cooking for best texture.

Steaming Method (Traditional for Sticky Rice)

After soaking, drain the rice and place it in a steamer lined with cloth or parchment. Steam over boiling water for 25–30 minutes until soft and sticky. This method gives the most authentic chewy texture, ideal for desserts and traditional dishes.

Why Choose McCabe Organic Brown Sweet Rice?

McCabe Organic Brown Sweet Rice offers a unique combination of wholesome nutrition and traditional texture, making it a standout choice for both everyday cooking and specialty recipes. Unlike regular white sweet rice, this variety retains its natural bran layer, which means it preserves more fiber, vitamins, and essential nutrients. This makes it a more balanced option for those who want to enjoy the signature sticky texture of sweet rice without compromising on nutritional value.

What truly sets this rice apart is its naturally soft and cohesive texture once cooked. It becomes pleasantly sticky, making it ideal for recipes that require binding, shaping, or a smooth, chewy consistency. From classic Asian desserts like mochi and rice cakes to savory dishes such as sticky rice bowls and dumplings, it adapts beautifully across cuisines.

In addition to its versatility, this rice is grown and processed under strict organic standards. It is free from synthetic pesticides, chemicals, and additives, ensuring a clean and high-quality product you can trust. Whether you are preparing traditional recipes or experimenting with modern dishes, SFMart’s rice varieties deliver both authenticity and nourishment in every serving.

When cooked, the grains develop a smooth, cohesive consistency that is perfect for shaping desserts, dumplings, and traditional sticky rice dishes.

Whole Grain Nutrition

A New Great tasting nutty sticky rice - Yay USA and Organically grown

I don't write a lot of reviews but I think this deserves a good 5 stars. Overall, I am very happy and thrilled to find USA grown and Organic brown sticky rice that actually tastes great. I have decided to always support made-and-grown in USA products/produce. Local farming always the best. Worth every hard earned penny.

Growing up with traditional Asian white sticky rice from overseas, taking on a whole grain brown sticky rice is somewhat an adjustment to my healthier lifestyle. It takes a bit longer to steam (even after an overnight soak) and not as sticky as glue like the other white sticky rice varieties, but it has a sweet nutty texture and taste. The more you chew, the sweeter and nuttier the flavor you can taste. So take your time and savor the meal. No bugs in the bag. You can always re-steam it to warm it up and rehydrate it. It tastes good a bit dry like that, too. I found myself snacking on it plain as if it were mini sunflower seeds.

Directions, this is what I do. I use a steamer pot. Whether I use the smaller or bigger steam layer depends on the amount of rice. If you use the deep big layer, make sure the water doesn't touch the bottom of the steam layer. The key is to make several steam holes, 1 in the middle and 5-6 on the outside in a circle, at the bottom of the layer steam pot so the steam can come up onto the rice. Steam at least 30-35 mins after the water is boiling with the lid closed, for 1 cup of soaked rice, more time if you want it softer. Don't open the lid until you think it's done because it takes a while to build up enough steam to cook the rice, and whole grain rice takes a while to cook, but it's worth the trouble.

I eat it with different beans or meat with breakfast and it keeps me full for a long time while I work hard tending and growing a big vegetable and fruit garden.

Bottom line, don't expect it to be sticky gooey white sticky rice. Take it like it is and get used to it. Kind of like eating white jasmine rice vs a wild rice mix (black, red, and brown), or white bread vs whole wheat bread. One is smooth and gooey sticky, the other has more texture, more flavor, and is slightly sweet and nutty.

Highly recommended. It is on my subscription list for life. Please keep growing them. Thank you so much for all the hard work. It's not easy growing food, let me tell you. Growing grains is even harder.
